Speech Therapy at Home for Veterans with Stroke and TBI

Speech-language pathology supports communication, cognition, and swallowing recovery in a familiar home environment.

Speech Therapy at Home for Veterans with Stroke and TBI

Speech therapy is often misunderstood as only pronunciation training. In skilled home health, it includes communication rehabilitation, cognitive-linguistic treatment, and dysphagia management.

Veterans recovering from stroke, traumatic brain injury, or other neurologic conditions may experience expressive language deficits, reduced attention, memory challenges, or unsafe swallowing. A certified SLP evaluates each domain and prioritizes high-risk issues first.

Home-based sessions allow therapy to be integrated into real routines: meal-time swallow strategies, communication supports with family, and memory tools used in daily tasks. This improves carryover between visits and supports safer outcomes.

Early identification and consistent treatment can reduce aspiration risk, improve communication confidence, and help veterans participate more fully in care decisions and family life.
